Madrid once again played host to one of the world’s largest and most influential tourism fairs, FITUR 2025, a spectacular event that brought together travel professionals, industry leaders, and adventure-seekers from across the globe. Organized by IFEMA MADRID, this year’s edition proved to be a record-breaking success, with nearly 255,000 visitors experiencing the event’s nine pavilions of cultural exchange, innovation, and sustainable travel initiatives.

With Brazil as the official Partner Country, the fair was inaugurated by Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain, setting the stage for five days (last January 21 to 25, 2025) of vibrant networking, business opportunities, and immersive travel experiences. The event welcomed over 9,500 companies and representatives from 156 countries, reaffirming FITUR’s status as a global tourism hub.

Spain’s Minister of Tourism, Rosario Sánchez, emphasized that this milestone is a testament to the country’s commitment to leading the transformation of the tourism sector. The event served as an opportunity to demonstrate Spain’s continued excellence in hospitality, sustainability, and innovation within the travel industry.

Madrid’s Head of Tourism, Almudena Maíllo del Valle, highlighted the significance of FITUR, an event that continues to establish itself as one of the most important tourism fairs in Spain and globally. In addition to exploring the world through FITUR, visitors have the chance to experience Madrid’s unparalleled gastronomy, vibrant cultural offerings, and stunning sunsets. A Journey Across Continents in One Place

One of the most thrilling aspects of FITUR is its ability to transport attendees to destinations near and far without ever leaving Madrid. Visitors explored the rich traditions, landscapes, and hospitality of regions spanning Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. Each pavilion showcased the unique flavors, music, and tourism innovations of their respective nations, making FITUR a true celebration of cultural diversity.

Puerto Rico, for example, enticed visitors with its bio-luminescent bays and breathtaking island landscapes. Arnaldo Santiago, an entrepreneur from Puerto Rico, highlighted Flamenco Beach, one of the world's most beautiful coastlines, as a must-visit destination. Portugal’s Trás-os-Montes region, rich in heritage and gastronomy, also made a strong impression, showcasing its scenic beauty and exquisite culinary traditions.

Meanwhile, the Philippines, captivated attendees with an immersive booth highlighting the country’s pristine beaches, warm hospitality, and strong historical ties with Spain. Gerard Panga, Tourism Attaché of the Philippines to the United Kingdom, emphasized the growing interest among Spaniards in destinations like El Nido, Siquijor, and Dumaguete. “More and more Spanish and European travelers are discovering the Philippines, drawn to its natural beauty and deep cultural connections,” Pangan shared.

In Spain, the southern region of Andalusia also captivated attendees with its breathtaking landscapes and unique offerings. The picturesque town of Vejer de la Frontera in Cádiz was highlighted as a must-visit destination. Nestled near the Strait of Gibraltar, this charming white-washed village boasts stunning ocean views, exquisite gastronomy, and rich biodiversity.

Moreover, Veronica Molinari of Italia Turismo emphasized the timeless appeal of Italy’s art, history, gastronomy, and vibrant culture. With destinations such as Rome, Florence, Venice, and Sicily, Italy continues to attract millions of visitors seeking rich cultural experiences. Special attention was given to Agrigento in Sicily, the Italian Capital of Culture for 2025, and the famous Venice Carnival, known for its enchanting elegance.

Sustainability and Innovation Take Center Stage

Under the theme “Orgullosos. Somos Turismo” (Proud. We Are Tourism), FITUR 2025 placed a strong emphasis on sustainability and technological advancements in the travel sector. Experts discussed ways to diversify and de-seasonalize travel, incorporating innovative solutions such as AI-driven experiences and eco-friendly tourism models. The goal? To ensure travel remains a meaningful and sustainable experience for future generations.

From responsible adventure tourism to cinematic travel experiences, the fair highlighted how the industry is evolving to meet the needs of modern travelers while preserving cultural heritage and protecting natural resources.

A Thriving Industry with a Bright Future

The numbers behind FITUR 2025 reflect the thriving state of the global travel industry. With international tourist arrivals reaching 1.4 billion in 2024 and travel-related revenues soaring to $1.9 trillion, the event underscored the resilience and vitality of tourism worldwide. Spain alone recorded a milestone of 94 million visitors, solidifying its place as a premier destination.

With the event generating an estimated €445 million in economic impact for Madrid, FITUR continues to play a crucial role in shaping the future of travel. As excitement builds for FITUR 2026, with Mexico as the Partner Country, the world eagerly anticipates another inspiring chapter in the evolution of global tourism.

For those who dream of new adventures, FITUR is more than just a trade fair—it’s a passport to the world.
